Game News WoW, Overwatch, Diablo… Any news coming soon? Blizzard co-director teases upcoming announcements

Between the takeover by Microsoft, the many studios founded by former veterans of the company, and their new survival franchise, Blizzard is making headlines for more than its current projects. But this does not mean that they are set aside.

Summary

  • Abandoned licenses
  • Something new soon?

Abandoned licenses

Mike Ybarra, sole director following the departure of his co-director Jen Oneal, wanted to reassure players on Twitter of the various projects underway on Twitter. Because it must be recognized that at the moment, Blizzard seems on all fronts. Yesterday, the studio known for World of Warcraft, Diablo or even Overwatch announced that a new franchise was in development. This license is survival oriented, and is located in separate universes from the previously mentioned licenses. In the wake of this announcement, it is even job offers that are published by Blizzard in order to recruit people on this promising project. It was enough to tickle some members of the community on Twitter. One of them expressed, without a hint of annoyance in his message, “that it seems that some Blizzard games already on the market would also need human resources“.

A small peak addressed to Blizzard and its management of the games already available like WoW Where Overwatch. Without being exhaustive, some players criticize the studio for abandoning their games: almost no more new characters on Overwatch, while Shadowlands updates are considered slow. However, Mike Ybarra does not let himself be dismantled and even allows fans of these games to be reassured:

Blizzard is a big studio. We have talented teams supporting released games. In the coming weeks, you will hear about Warcraft and Overwatch. Diablo will follow. Stay connected!

Something new soon?

New information is therefore expected in the coming weeks. But when ? No date has been announced, but we can plant sticks and set a more or less legitimate period. If BlizzCon has been canceled this year, an annual event during which the studio discusses its future projects, Blizzard has promised that big announcements were going to take place during the month of February. We can therefore expect something new to arrive in these waters: a date for the release of 9.2 of World of Warcraft or even the announcement of the new extension (big tweezers), and some information on the future of Overwatch. As a reminder, Overwatch 2 was recently postponed.

What about Diablo? If Mike Ybarra announces that the hack’n’slash license should follow these colleagues, he does not specify a release period. Nevertheless, we can still hope to have news of Diablo 4. The team behind the fourth episode, pushed back at the same time as Overwatch 2, publishes quarterly the progress of the developers on the project. We should therefore have news by March 31 at the latest, at the same time as the next expansion ofHearthstone.
