  • 48

In less than a week, Pokemon Legends: Arceus land on Nintendo Switch. to comb two months after the remakes, Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Pokémon Sparkling Pearl, this highly anticipated new Pokémon title, should launch hostilities on the Nintendo console, the year 2022 promises to be very rich. However, many players are skeptical and wonder if Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a real revival for the license, a kind of Pokémon : Breath of The Wild or if it’s not just an upgraded version of the Savage Lands of Pokémon Sword / Shield who had somewhat disappointed… You only have to read what is currently being said on social networks to see that players are already tearing themselves apart around the game, especially on the graphics deemed by some to be unworthy of BOTW and even quite simply of the Switch (see N64!)

Meanwhile in Japan, the first previews of the game have been released by various media outlets. Thanks to the website VGC who compiled some of them, find below the first (good) impressions which will give you a first idea of the game…

Famitsu

For Famitsu, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is completely different from the other books. There is a real feeling of freedom to move freely over a vast terrain without knowing which Pokémon you will encounter. It’s also “exhilarating” to be able to fly through the sky while being able to see the Pokemon below moving freely across the land. Famitsu also notes that the game is “surprisingly difficult”, the tester having struggled to fight a Chopper pissed….

It’s safe to say that this game is completely different from previous titles

The first thing that impressed me when I started playing was the exhilarating feeling of moving freely around the vast terrain.

It’s great to be able to fly freely in the sky, but it’s especially fun to look for Pokemon that look small below you.

Game Watch

For Game Watch, the game successfully combines new elements with old ones. Thus, it is exhilarating to be able to ride Pokémon to move around the world. In addition, we find the classic combat system that can be triggered at any time. There is also a great tension since Pokémon can attack you at any time during your travels.

What was particularly impressive about this experience was the world building. I was impressed with how the same old Pokemon battles were mixed into the new and innovative action without any sense of discomfort.

It’s a gaming experience like no other in the series, and I have high hopes that it’s a whole new form of Pokemon gaming.

4Gamer

For 4Gamer, the game impresses with the lively and more “realistic” side of the world, each wild Pokémon having its own personality but also that despite its richness and complexity the game remains very simple to learn. The site also notes that while the game is very different, it includes everything we love about Pokémon, namely hunting Pokémon, filling out your Pokédex and participating in battles. He also appreciates the fact that you can throw your Pokéball and start a fight without transition, but also that you can catch Pokémon by other means…

One thing that struck me was that Baudrive was very belligerent and attacked as soon as he noticed us. Even if we weren’t engaged in a Pokémon battle, they would charge the main character mercilessly.

There are a lot of new elements in this game, like the wide world and the action, but the game is not difficult to play, and I was impressed that the best of Pokemon games, like completing the Pokédex and enjoy battles, is always included.

I also felt the game portrayed a world inhabited by Pokémon in a more realistic way, as you can seamlessly throw a Pokéball and start a battle, or you can find ways to catch Pokémon without battling.

It feels like it was like that before Pokemon and humans got along.

If you’ve played Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and explored the Sinnoh region, you’ll enjoy this first adventure in the past. I can’t wait for it to come out

Conclusion

In summary, it seems that Pokemon Legends: Arceus has managed to mix the classic game mechanics of Pokémon with again bringing a new feeling of freedom in the series… Obviously even if these first opinions of Pokemon Legends: Arceus are more than promising, we will wait to have the game in hand to form our own opinion and as always we will not fail to share it with you. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to tell us what you think in the comments.

As a reminder, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be available from January 28, 2021 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. More info with our previous news.
