Good news Crucial P5 Plus NVMe SSD Compatible with PS5 Gets Hot Holiday Promotion

Whether you’re looking to build a new PC, boost your current setup, or just increase your PlayStation 5’s storage space, M.2 NVMe Gen 4 SSDs are starting to get more affordable. This is the case in particular with the P5 Plus from Crucial, which is now priced at € 139 at Amazon.

Already well known to PC gamers for many years for all the comfort they bring in the launch of the computer, games or loading times, SSDs and more particularly models of the M.2 NVMe type, are experiencing a unprecedented success since the release of the PS5 just over a year ago.

It must be said that the low storage space offered natively by Sony (barely 600 GB once the space occupied by the applications and the system has been deducted). This is little, very little even for owners of the Digital model who have to download all their games, some of which exceed 100 GB. This roughly limits to about ten games that can be stored simultaneously. It is doable but it is not very friendly …

Fortunately, there is a very simple solution which consists in adding a nice NVMe SSD yourself in the space provided for this purpose. To be sure to take full advantage of the performance of this SSD, consider installing a small heat sink to ensure optimal operation.

Normally offered around 190 euros, the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB SSD is now available on Amazon for only € 139.99, its best price of the year after the Black Friday period.

Crucial P5 Plus 1TB SSD, a fast SSD that will satisfy your PC as well as your PS5

The Crucial P5 Plus SSD is therefore a so-called Gen 4 SSD, compatible with the very latest PCI Express 4.0 ports. The speeds compared to Gen 3 are two to three faster and this model is able to reach 6600MB / s read which is well above the 5500MB / s recommended by Sony. We specify “recommended” because in fact, any Gen 4 SSD will be recognized and will work. Below 5500 MB / s Sony mentions possible slowdowns in very rare cases.

Ditto for the heat sink, it is in no way “mandatory” but it will allow your SSD to keep a good temperature and ditto, not to suffer from slowdowns (a shame for SSDs that run at more than 6000 MB / s…). In the worst case, if your SSD gets too hot, it will reduce its performance on its own to keep a suitable temperature. No risk of overheating or degradation.

Everything you need to know about SSDs for PS5

How to increase the storage space of the PS5?

There are two ways to increase the storage of your PS5, via an external hard drive (HDD) or via an SSD to insert into your console. However, it is only with an internal SSD that you will be able to launch the games.

How to install an internal SSD on the PS5?

To do this, you need a size 1 Phillips screwdriver. After making sure that the console is unplugged, lay it down and position it in front of you. Remove the cover and then unscrew the cover from the SSD expansion slot. Remove the screws, plug in the SSD and screw it in. All you have to do is close the cover of the space dedicated to the SSD and replace the outer cover. Plug the console back in and follow the instructions in the PS5 format utility so that you can use your new SSD.

Which internal SSDs are compatible with the PS5?

Currently, due to very strict rules for integrating an SSD, only a few PCIe 4.0 models may be suitable. With a heat sink, we will retain the SSD WD_Black SN850, and then, in the category without heat sink, you can count on the Sabrent 2Tb Rocket 4 Plus, the Samsung 980 Pro or the Crucial P5 Plus.
